The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is seeking a talented Humanitarian Affairs Officer (HAO) – Local Area Coordination (LAC) to join their team in Maiduguri, Nigeria.
What will you be doing?
As the HAO-LAC, you will play a vital role in ensuring a coordinated and effective humanitarian response in Northeast Nigeria. Your key responsibilities include:
- Information Collection and Analysis: You’ll gather and analyze information on humanitarian issues, contributing to insightful reports and briefings.
- Facilitation and Coordination: You’ll facilitate information sharing among partners and help establish strong coordination mechanisms between stakeholders.
- Monitoring and Reporting: You’ll conduct regular field visits to assess the humanitarian situation and prepare reports to guide informed decision-making.

Who are we looking for?
- A Nigerian national with a Master’s degree in political science, sociology, law, international relations or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree with two years of relevant experience may be considered.
- Up to two years of experience in complex emergencies and inter-agency contexts, particularly in Northeast Nigeria.
- Fluency in written and spoken English, Hausa, and Kanuri.
- Strong analytical, research, and reporting skills.
- Excellent teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills.
