The International Labour Organisation (ILO) Fellowship Programme 2024 is currently accepting applications. The Social Finance Programme of ILO is seeking qualified individuals with knowledge in inclusive finance, microfinance, insurance, and development to join its Fellowship Programme list and potentially be placed in Mozambique, Sierra Leone, or Solomon Islands. This will help address any skill deficiencies and cultivate a fresh cohort of professionals with expertise in serving underprivileged communities.
For a duration of one year, every Fellow will be assigned to a host organization to provide assistance for an innovation project. The project may vary and include tasks such as launching a new financial product, establishing a public-private partnership, developing a digital solution, or forming a distribution partnership.
Responsibilities of Fellows
The individual in this position will have the duty of offering technical support to the host and partner financial organizations. This will be done in a way that supports the goals of the project aimed at enhancing access to financial resources and implementing appropriate financial services that encourage and facilitate the gradual formalization of informal businesses.
The responsibilities for this role encompassed a range of tasks, including but not limited to the following:
- Communicating with the ILO, host organization, and partner financial institutions to ensure the timely and effective execution of the project;
- Familiarizing oneself with regulatory frameworks to ensure that recommendations are in line with local financial sector and business formalization laws;
- Developing methods for client segmentation in order to identify the most likely candidates from the host and partner organizations to formalize their activities;
- Conducting visits and interviews with clients of the host organization and/or partner entities to gather information for recommendations;
- Identifying incentives and capacity building needs that can contribute to promoting progressive formalization of the targeted client segment, considering factors such as financial product type, capacity gaps, and needs of the target beneficiaries;
- Contributing to the design of financial products and solutions, customizing them to fit the needs of the target group by incorporating relevant capacity building activities and incentives to improve access to finance and promote formalization of informal businesses;
- Reviewing internal processes, workflows, information systems, and flows to ensure efficient sharing and integration of data necessary for client segmentation and treatment;
- Establishing a connection between the host and partner organization’s clients and the capacity and ecosystem building activities being carried out through the current development cooperation project;
- Assisting in the development of partnerships between the host and partner organizations, as necessary;
- Documenting lessons learned during the development and testing of financial products, methods, and/or internal processes throughout the project.

Qualification
- Possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics, management, finance, banking and insurance, or a related field.
- Have 5-10 years of work experience in the financial services industry and a thorough understanding of banking and insurance products and procedures.
- Demonstrated skills in project management.
- Proven experience in business analysis.
- Familiarity with development cooperation.
